Mountain biking

TOUR HIGHLIGHTS

Mountain biking is an exhilarating sport that involves riding bicycles off-road over rough terrain, often on specially designed mountain bikes. These bikes are crafted for durability and performance on challenging trails, featuring air or coil-sprung shocks for suspension, larger and wider wheels and tires, robust frame materials, and mechanically or hydraulically actuated disc brakes.

Mountain biking encompasses several styles, each offering unique experiences and challenges. Cross country (XC) focuses on endurance and speed over long distances and varied terrain, often involving both climbing and descending. Trail riding is a versatile and recreational form of mountain biking that balances both uphill and downhill riding on moderately challenging terrain. All mountain (Enduro) combines elements of trail riding with more demanding downhill sections, emphasizing both technical climbs and descents. Downhill involves steep, technical descents on specially designed downhill bikes that prioritize control and stability, often in race settings. Freeride focuses on performing aerial maneuvers off both natural features and specially constructed jumps and ramps, blending elements of downhill and dirt jumping.

Mountain biking requires a combination of endurance, core strength, balance, bike handling skills, and self-reliance. Advanced riders tackle steep technical descents and high-incline climbs. In freeride, downhill, and dirt jumping disciplines, riders perform aerial maneuvers, showcasing their skills and daring off both natural and man-made features.

Whether you’re seeking the thrill of high-speed descents, the challenge of technical climbs, or the freedom of performing aerial stunts, mountain biking offers a diverse and exciting way to explore the great outdoors and push your physical limits.

Mountain bikers ride on off-road trails such as single track, back-country roads, wider bike park trails, fire roads, and some advanced trails are designed with jumps, berms, and drop-offs to add excitement to the trail. Riders with enduro and downhill bikes will often visit ski resorts that stay open in the summer to ride downhill specific trails, using the ski lifts to return to the top with their bikes. Because riders are often far from civilization, there is a strong element of self-reliance in the sport. Riders learn to repair broken bikes and flat tires to avoid being stranded. Many riders carry a backpack, including water, food, tools for trailside repairs, and a first aid kit in case of injury. Group rides are common, especially on longer treks. Mountain bike orienteering adds the skill of map navigation to mountain biking.
